After 26 years in the East Village, Black Hound New York closed its retail location at 170 Second Ave. last March.
And as you can see from the above photo, awning signage is up for the new tenant — Eyes on Second.

When Vegetarian's Paradise restaurant down on Mott Street closed probably ten years ago, it became an optician shop. Clearly, opticians join the ranks of fitness centers, nail salons, bars, and banks as a business that can pay the rapidly-escalating rents in this neighborhood.
I've been looking for a good artisanal eyeball shop for awhile!

I don't want to sound like a tin hat nutjob, but it seems like everyone is wearing glasses by thirty years old these days. I myself was just diagnosed with 20/30 vision and I know my computer screen-heavy job is to blame for it.

Eyenbelievable. Eye am in awe it is not an eyertisanal cockteyel bar. Eye have hope for the Eyest Village. Eye suck at this.
Call me worried, but Black Hound's website doesn't seem to exist any more, nor have they tweeted in many months. Have they gone completely out of business? I hope not, but fear to find out.
