This is plain old theft by the management co & its contractors and should be prosecuted as such.
Yes, call the cops. Even if they don't get them for theft, you can sue them, if it violated the lease.
A warning to all make sure your backup important files to an external hard drive or cloud service (many of which are free). I am very sorry for this guy.
Does anyone know the status of Bikes by George on 4th and A? I passed by a couple times, and the shop is closed with its regular signage about hours of operation. I have called a few times too, and the phone just rings and rings. My hope is that George just went on vacation, but I am still concerned. Please post info, if you have it.
This is Westminster Management, owned by NY Observer publisher and Mr. Ivanka Trump, Jared Kusner.
See below: "Report: Local Politicos Criticize Kushner..."
I think that this guy was a MARKET RATE tenant, nice to know that Westminster isn't discriminating and are happy to screw all tenants equally!
That was a great story about Kossar's bialy bakery, very thorough and informative. My boyfriend once ordered a plain bialy and was promptly informed that there are "no plain, all have onion." Loved that moment.
Hooray for the Bialy! but I wish the article had mentioned my beloved Bulkas and Onion Discs too. I trust they'll keep making those!
Interesting list of Ramones albums. My list would be:
1. Rocket to Russia
2. First album
3. It's Alive
Stop.
It's been alleged for many years that Bikes By George received and sold stolen bikes. Maybe it finally caught up with him.
I have known the Philbert family which owns Bikes By George for decades and was good friends with Dominique a/k/a/ ERO before his untimely passing a few years ago.
George's policy was to never buy stolen bikes. I have even been in the store on a few occasions when bike thieves came by to sell them stolen bikes, and they always refused to buy them, it was against their beliefs. The store buys bikes from pubic auctions and they get tons of good bikes for much less than even the thieves are asking for them, and they are very honest people. Most of their income comes from repairs, for which they charge less than most other shops.
I believe Dateline NBC did the Philbert family a great disservice by sending in an undercover actor and basically begging Dominique many times over for a few dollars for a bike which they then later claimed was stolen. The guy told him a sob story and he fell for it. And in the end it killed him.
He gave a guy he felt sorry for a few bucks, then made him look bad on TV, and he died of a heart attack in the store shortly after as he was embarrassed in the media. His family was very hard on him for not following their policy of never buying from anyone who walks into the store.
Dominique was always giving away money, and he made a lot of it from selling his paintings in the 80s at the Fun Gallery and galleries around the world. In the end he didn't have any moneyleft, and went to work for his father in the bike store.
Dominique was publicly humiliated just so Dateline NBC could get some ratings, but they never tell you how many people commit suicide or die of a heart attack like Dominique did after appearing on their show.
I still miss Dom, the stress and humiliation for the mistake killed him, but people continue to talk about things they don't even know about. The guy is dead, isn't that enough?
11:21, making allegations or repeating an 'alleged' crime like this, anonymously and without evidence or even inside knowledge, is the lowest form of cheap damaging gossip. Grieve you probably are aware that George's son, who died probably 5 years ago or so, had been up to less than good deeds from time to time, and he has been buried for a long time now. His death broke George's heart, even with those issues, as does tha death of a son to a father. George himself is an example of old-school integrity and honesty like you just don't see much anymore. If you want to lose a wallet full of cash and know that it will be returned promptly and untouched, drop it in his shop.
George is a good guy. Son Dom was definitely not. Without going on and on with stories, lets just recall that he was caught on video sawing off the top of a small recently planted tree which someone had foolishly bolted a bicycle to, so that he could then lift the bike off the stump and steal it. He was successfully prosecuted for this act. It was not at all out of character for him. By the way the genius did this less than 100 yards from his fathers shop, the tree was on east 5th off of A by the ConEd substation. Dom's many nefarious actions were well know to all of us on the block, he barely made a secret of them.
That said he is dead for years now, George is a solid honest hardworking guy and should not be scorned because of the problems with his long-dead son.
I went by the shop today ... there's a sign on the door saying they will be closed for a week, reopening Sept. 7
Don't these Apple computers have a find my computer app like their fones??
