After several weeks of inactivity, there's progress at the Tompkins Square Park basketball courts... EVG Facebook friend Erick Hartz shared these photos from yesterday, showing workers (in YouTube T-shirts) resurfacing the courts in the Park's northeast corner...
As previously reported, workers began tearing up the courts on May 29. The New York City Parks Department teamed up with YouTube for the renovations. (YouTube is funding the operation, estimated at $300,000.)

Parks officials originally said that work would be wrapped by the time that city schools let out for the summer on June 26. Workers estimate that the resurfacing would be complete by this evening.

Google/Youtube isn't doing this out of the generosity of their hearts. I wonder what they get out if it. Google is a central player in the global surveillance economy, if they are just trying to build goodwill, they need to try harder.
I hope they address one issue- on some summer days, the pool behind the courts there would overflow, and the sprinkler from the pool would lead to water running onto the court and draining all the way across the court towards avenue B and interrupt the games... hopefully they slope it a bit near the pool or accounted for runoff somehow!!

As for me, if I see one fucking youtube logo I'm going to explode.
Soon, coffee carts in the perimeter outside the courts and within the park will start popping-up, sponsored by Stumptown Roasters and served by caffeinologists in their trilby or 50's rockabilly pin-up dress.

There isn't enough tax revenue to make these types of projects. Where do you think the money will come from? Higher taxes? Hahaha.
Shouldn't the City pay for renovations of public amenities? The courts (in the rendering) sure are unusual, unnatural corporate-ID YouTube Red. Will there be a live b-ball cam streaming video to YouTube, "live, from the YouTube courts in fabulous Tompkins Square?"
As for the pool - wouldn't it look great in Google Blue?
