New Herbal World has moved away from 14th Street

New Herbal World, which offered a variety of herbs, teas and tonics as well as acupuncture, has left 14th Street.

There's a small note with a forwarding address at the gate here at 442 E. 14th St. just west of Avenue A... they moved down to 109 Lafayette St. ...

The shop had been stuck in the L-train renovation hell zone for the past two-plus years.

The access to these shops was a mere 28 inches for months... and the businesses have reported a decline in sales...

I wonder if these one story buildings will be with us much longer?

I worry about the coffee shop; sometimes I got in there to eat, even if I'm not in the mood for diner food, just to throw some business at them. And like @nobleneolani, I fear it's just a matter of time before all of those one-story buildings are bought up, torn down and turned into more hulking light- and sun-blocking behemoths with giant retail spaces that will remain empty for vast stretches of time.

Another business killed by the MTA! Estimated completion date, as of today, for the elevators and substation at Ave B is Fall 2020- going into year 4 of this project. A big part of the reason for this is that the MTA was trying to avoid environmental review for the toxic mess they had planed to take out of the tunnel, so they weren't really working on the elevator part, and lying to the community. The elevator shafts were to be the access point for the 24/7 trucks that were planned for the hole where the elevators should be. A total con job that was thankfully stopped by people smarter than the MTA. The neighborhood luckily dodged a gigantic toxic bullet thanks to the people who figured out a better way to renovate (isn't that supposed to be the MTA's job?)Over 3 years to put in elevators and dig a hole- your tax dollars (not at) work for the sleazy and incompetent MTA.
