Green Garden Buffet debuts on 9th Street

Green Garden Buffet opened this week at 332 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue... EVG regular Lola Saénz shares these photos of owner Tamika Gabaroum (left) and her assistant (and best friend) Caroline ...

The buffet-style spot serves what's billed as healthy French food. (Another reader described it as Chadian, as Gabaroum is originally from Chad.) Here's a look at the menu ... a selection of these items are available for takeout via a buffet setup that is $7.99 a pound ...

Gabaroum is a former public health advocate with the Peace Corps who served in UN Peacekeeping Missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She was an early recipient of a loan last summer as part of the East Village Revitalization Loan Fund for small business owners. (You can read more about the partnership with City Councilmember Carlina Rivera and community advocates here and here.)

Green Garden Buffet is open daily from 1 to 10 p.m.

There were about 8-10 items on a small buffet when I stopped by... I had the sautéed kale, chick peas and sweet potatoes. All of it was quite good! Definitely going back...

Unfortunately they don't seem to be on the What's Open Guide.

This would be the first Chadian restaurant in nyc! Awesome! What are their hours?

They are open from 1-10 pm daily, Kim. That info is in the last line of the post.

Looks delicious, can't wait to try it! I welcome homemade real food to our neighborhood rather than student focused crappy takeout.

I have been waiting for this place to open since they put that green sign soooo long ago! Perfect addition to this wonderful block of 9th St.

Congratulations Tamika and Caroline!! You have no idea what obstacles these ladies pushed through to get this place up & running: Ain't No Mountain High Enough was written for them. Work up an appetite and get on over there!
