Yes, they should have done it on the 9,000 degree human bbq grill known as Astor Place. Fiji sponsored water, BMW sponsored heat exhaustion triage. Facebook employee commentary. What an event! ;)
Fringe is also presenting "Debriefing", a terrific, timely play about Muslim issues of these times. Highly recommended.
I love this! I wish I had known about it. Seeing art in the East Village is wonderful.

Is it just me or do the mask look slightly Guiliani-esque?
Who is funding performance art these days if they can take over a city block with ease? Developers, venture capital and hedge fund firms maybe.
I ask this because of the difficulties for social justice activist groups to get permits, there was a collective in crown heights that recently got denied to hold an anti-gentrification rally in a park. And the way the authorities cordon protesters off in free speech zones a good distance away from it's target of protest.

@1:51 The fringe festival has been around for 20 years, they're a non-profit organization. The Fourth Arts Block (FAB) has its offices on 4th between 2nd & Bowery. They're also a non-profit arts group, so it's likely that this was done in conjunction with them. They have street performances and festivals throughout the year.
I remember when people used to do stuff like this in the subways and parks, till the cops chased them for not permits!!!
