Wanyoo, a Shanghai-based cyber cafe chain, has signed a lease for the two-level retail space at 4 St. Mark's Place.
The cafe, which has a location in Flushing, reportedly signed a 20-year lease for 2,600 square feet on the ground floor and 1,400 square feet in the basement of the under-renovation landmarked building between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

They optimistically hope to be open early this summer.
Until February 2016, 4 St. Mark's Place housed Trash & Vaudeville for 41 years. The store relocated to 96 E. Seventh St.
The Hamilton-Holly House (aka 4 St. Mark's Place), built in 1831, was once owned by Alexander Hamilton’s son. The building, which changed hands for $10 million in the spring of 2016 for $10 million, is currently undergoing a gut renovation and expansion.

This is actually a pretty interesting use for a space like this. Better than another vintage store or hair salon at least.

anon 11.15 nice to see someone on this blog show a little interest and enthusiasm for a new business. honestly cant understand what the old timers in this neighborhood are actually looking for ... complain about all the millenial catered business but then when a new concept like a cyber cafe or pet-friendly shop come in its a jeremiad about how stupid/useless/doomed the new business is.
Aren't most coffee shops (cafes) forms of cyber cafes? At least that is my impression as I walk around the neighborhood and see most seats occupied by people working on their computers.

The only conclusion I can make about St. Marks place over that las qtr century, is that rents on that block must be really dirt cheap for some reason.
But then again, I don't understand how fortune teller businesses are able to manage their commercial rents either.
In case anyone cares, this isn't as much as an internet cafe as it is a Gaming spot. I was in a large one in Paris last year... on a Friday night... because I had to print some tickets on their printer. The place was packed by guys playing online video games. High powered computers, good graphics, etc.
I was very surprised how popular the place was.
The new Trash & Vaudeville on 7th is very nice. I am so grateful that we didn't lose ir after St Mark's shut down, because no one makes perfect, adorable bondage pants for ladies of all ages except Daang Goodman. I felt like T&V belonged on St Marks forever (with Jimmy Webb outside on the stoop) but times change I guess. Also go visit Jimmy's new shop I Need More on Orchard. It is like punk couture!
