Sandwicherie has closed on 4th Avenue and 13th Street; doomed corner status yet?

That's all for Sandwicherie New York on the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and 13th Street.

EVG regular Laura shared these photos from Saturday, showing that the quick-serve, health-conscious sandwich shop has been emptied out...

Sandwicherie opened here in April 2017.

This has been a challenging corner for businesses since the longtime deli was rent-hiked out of here in November 2012. The space has been home to Fresh & Co. and Pie Face and now Sandwicherie in the past five years. Next!

IMO, "Sandwicherie" is a lousy name, one that indicates to me overpriced stuff I could probably make at home.

This space had a rather sterile feel to it; nothing hostile but certainly nothing special or welcoming about it, again IMO.

And I'm sure that the rent must be a factor. Too bad we lost the regular NYC deli that used to be there.

I ate there a couple of days before closing and i overheard some contractors inspecting the place say it was being converted to a 'Dig Inn'

I will be very disappointed if it becomes another Dig Inn. There is already one on 17th St near Broadway- 6 blocks away.

If a sandwich is going to be overpriced it had better not be healthy imho.

Should another food venture blunder into this money sinkhole, may I make a suggestion? Never, ever let any food-handling employee smoke anywhere near the premises. On my way in once, a food-handler finishing a smoke break held the door for me. I walked in, looked around, walked out, and never returned. The end.

This place actually made some very good pasta to order, but I agree with the above comment that the place itself felt cold and sterile. Somehow Eataly knows how to create the right atmosphere in a big open industrial space that feels just right for food consumption, even if the tables are all too close together. The warm, dim lighting helps. Another issue was that there was another place on the next block called Sandwiches, but it closed too. Let's hope that Funkiberry rents the space to make their big comeback.

Sandwicherie chain is the rebranded former Pax Kitchen chain, for those keeping score at home.
