EVG reader Annabelle shares this from the southwest corner of Avenue A and Ninth Street... apparently the mayor's solar-powered Big Belly trash can is out of service (Day 21 per the sign).
Despite the obvious problem with the Big Belly, people continue to stack trash on top on the pile of trash...

Why don't they do the nabe a favor and bag the spillage! instead of posting signs. Part of the trash problem on the streets is that store owners don't clean up outside their shops. What does it take? A few minutes. We know complaining is a waste with Ruin-the EV Rivera and Death-the-City-de Blasio as our fearless leaders.

People who put their trash on top of overflowing trash cans and broken Big Belly’s are the epitome of the legions of entitled, lazy, and moronic individuals who never think their own actions matter — looking at all those people out there who voted independent out there as if their vote doesn't count. Ralph Nader, Jill Stein and Gary Johnson come to mind. This is the tyranny of small decisions. The masses never seem to realize that when enough people do the same thing their actions have profound consequences for us all. Yes, trash and voting are related issues; every piece of trash and every vote counts, and they often lead to a big mess.
So please don’t leave your trash in a place where it will only make a bigger mess, especially where there is already a giant mess for someone else to clean up. Vote for the candidate that needs your vote, not the one who makes you feel good about a self-defeating protest vote that will only create more problems for everyone. And overall, pay attention. Stop looking down at your phone. Look up at the world around you. Be a better person, the one your parents thought they raised, not the one who goes to SantaCon every year and actually thinks its great.

I wouldn’t blame Doc Holliday’s for the pile. I have a milkcrate on my bike and that fucker fills up fast with a lot of douchebags’ garbage when I leave the bike parked for longer than an hour. One friday night in the shitstorm that our neighborhood has become really generates A LOT of trash. Easy on the blame game. City dwellers should be more responsible for the trail that they leave.
If Doc Holliday's wanted to help clean up the neighborhood then they should stop hosting SantaCon.
I will say it’s fair to blame Doc Hollidays for the SantaCon scourge.
There is overflowing garbage everywhere in NYC but this is particularly horrible.
Incredible and terrifying that people think it is ok, cannot hold their garbage for a few blocks.
And folks say they are concerned about the environment and climate change...
why can't we have the oldschool wire mesh waste basket style for street garbage? I see them in other neighborhoods in all their dented battered glory, so they have not been rendered obsolete everywhere. get rid of these digital useless trash receptacles. mean spirited too for the little old ladies who collect bottles for the deposit.
If we get rid of the digital garbage cans then the technology cartel doesn't get a piece of the action.
