Gutting Tarallucci e Vino

Tarallucci e Vino on 10th Street at First Avenue is currently closed (as of Monday) for a renovation.

As the sign on the Italian cafe notes: "After 16 great years ... it's time to spruce things up a bit."

Based on this glance inside the space yesterday, it appears to be more than a sprucing up, which suggests a coat of paint and some new chairs ...

The owners expect to be back in service by the end of March.

Thanks to Lola Sāenz for the photo!

UPDATED: The cafe reopened on June 12.

I am calling bullshit. I walked past it yesterday on the way to the dentist. I peaked in just a tiny bit and one of the guys walked out and told me in a quiet voice that it will be a new place. Just look at the pic. The interior is being completely gutted. I've known people who do this for a living for restaurants in the city. It is usually a sign of a new business and/or owner. "Renovations" such as this cost a pretty penny and can take months to complete. And its not normal for a business to close for two months and leave their employees high and dry. Why not post a sign on the door that tells the truth?

When it reopens as tarallucci e Vino how will you apologize for spreading rumors? BTW , all employees have been given posts in other T and V locations

@11:07AM When it opens as a Starbucks, will you buy us all a skinny latte?

Just to split the difference here between it being reopened or closed for good, a reminder that lot of businesses go under to get out of debt and change their moniker slightly as a new business, but actually with the same ownership. Not saying that is happening here, but its common and perhaps possible.

one of the true Italian style cafes where you can get an espresso and a prime curbside spot. I hope you don't change too much.
